WASHINGTON, D.C. – So much for those slow starts … and those second half doldrums as Bethune-Cookman opened Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference play with a 37-29 victory over Howard Saturday at Greene Stadium.
Akevious Williams rushed for 101 yards and a career-high three touchdowns as the Wildcats (3-1 overall, 1-0 MEAC) won their league opener for the first time since 2015 and snapped a two-game losing streak to the Bison (1-4,1-1).
After three games without an offensive score in the first quarter, BCU scored on its first two offensive possessions, both culminating with Williams touchdown runs en route to leads of 14-0 and 24-7.
Howard closed to 24-21 on Quinton Williams’ 12-yard run with 12:39 remaining, but the Wildcats answered with a nine-play, 72-yard drive that gave BCU a 31-21 lead with 11:51 remaining.

NORFOLK, Va. | It wasn’t pretty, but the Florida A&M University football team survived its Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) opener on Saturday afternoon with a 30-28 victory over Norfolk State at William “Dick” Price Stadium.
Norfolk State (1-4 overall, 0-1 MEAC) took the opening kickoff and marched 74 yards in 11 plays as Kevin Johnson scored on a 4-yard touchdown run to give the Spartans a 7-0 advantage with 9:48 remaining in the first quarter.
Florida A&M (3-1, 1-0) answered the Spartan opening drive as the Rattlers went 75 yards in six plays to tie the game at 7.
FAMU running back Bishop Bonnett accounted for 35 yards and Ryan Stanley completed a third and 10 for a 40-yard touchdown strike as David Manigo caught the ball and carried three NSU players into the endzone with 8:09 left in the opening quarter.
The Spartans used a 13-play, 83-yard drive, capped by a Gerald Hulett 2-yard touchdown run to break the 7-7 tie and give Norfolk State a 14-7 lead with just under eight minutes left in the first half.

North Carolina Central University amassed 330 yards and four touchdowns on the ground, while adding three interceptions to increase its takeaway total to 16 on the season (10 interceptions/6 fumble recoveries), as the Eagles defeat Morgan State 27-17 in the MEAC opener for both squads on Saturday night in Baltimore.
NCCU (2-3, 1-0 MEAC) finished with 416 total yards, as freshman quarterback threw for 86 yards and ran for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Redshirt junior running back Isaiah Totten recorded 112 rushing yards, redshirt junior Jordan Freeman contributed 95 ground yards, and redshirt freshman Latrell Collier added 53 yards and a pair of scores on the ground.
Junior defensive back Bryan Mills enjoyed a career day by tallying all three of NCCU’s interceptions, including two in the end zone to prevent Morgan State touchdowns. Redshirt sophomore linebacker Jerome Foster amassed a game-high 10 tackles (8 solo), while redshirt senior defensive end Darius Royster collected nine takedowns (7 solo), including 2.0 stops for a loss with a sack.
